SEVENTEEN’s main vocalists, DK (Lee Seokmin) and Seungkwan (Boo Seungkwan), are finally stepping into the spotlight as a duo. This marks the first time DK and Seungkwan are debuting as a formal vocal unit.
The pair has announced their first unit mini-album, Serenade, set for release on January 12, 2026, at 6 p.m. KST.
On December 17 at midnight, the announcement arrived alongside a concept trailer titled An Ordinary Love. It offered a soft, emotional glimpse into the album’s tone and storytelling.
Before the announcement, DK and Seungkwan surprised fans with a special pre-release treat. On December 14, they released a cover of Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ hit “Die With a Smile” on SEVENTEEN’s official YouTube channel. As expected, it quickly became a talking point among fans and casual listeners. The performance highlighted DK’s clear, powerful delivery, blending seamlessly with Seungkwan’s rich, emotive tone.
Visually, the duo leaned into a retro aesthetic, wearing red shirts and light blue suits similar to Bruno Mars while performing on a 1970s-inspired set.
DK and Seungkwan’s individual cover videos on SEVENTEEN’s YouTube channel have collectively surpassed 100 million views. This latest release has only surpassed 1.5 million views.
The DK x Seungkwan unit also represents an important moment in SEVENTEEN’s long-standing unit system. Since debut, the group has been structured around the concept of “13 members + 3 units + 1 team.” SEVENTEEN’s sub-units have played a key role in showcasing different strengths.
DK and Seungkwan have previously worked together in the popular special unit BSS alongside Hoshi. Serenade marks their first official unit focused entirely on vocal performance.
Their debut continues SEVENTEEN’s recent trend of successful duo projects, following units like Jeonghan x Wonwoo, Hoshi x Woozi, and S.Coups x Mingyu. It also arrives during a transitional period for the group, as several members have begun their mandatory military service.
The launch of this unit helps maintain SEVENTEEN’s strong presence during this enlistment era.
Even while preparing for their unit debut, both DK and Seungkwan have remained busy with individual and group activities throughout 2025. Seungkwan contributed the emotional OST “Somewhere In This Universe” to the drama When the Stars Gossip, while DK lent his voice to “It’s You” for Resident Playbook.
Both are also occupied with SEVENTEEN’s ongoing SEVENTEEN WORLD TOUR [NEW_], which included major stadium shows in the US and a four-dome tour in Japan.
Meanwhile, DK ax Seungkwan’s debut mini-album Serenade arrives on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 6 PM. Fans can begin pre-orders of the album on December 17 at 11 am.
