SM Entertainment will introduce its first girl group five years after the debut of aespa.
Given aespa’s massive success, there are high expectations that the new girl group will reach similar heights.
Over the past few years, SM Entertainment has launched multiple K-pop acts each year. In 2024, they introduced NCT WISH and virtual idol nævis to the world. RIIZE debuted in September 2023 with 7 members.
Besides the new girl group, former RIIZE member Seunghan is also scheduled to debut in the second half of 2025.
Prism Production, the mastermind behind SHINee and WayV, is launching a brand-new rookie girl group in early 2025. This marks the company’s first girl group debut in five years since aespa. As per reports, members, group name, and title track are already finalized and the team is now gearing up for full-scale production.
They will likely have their debut performance at the SMTOWN LIVE 2025. SM delayed the debut of their new girl group multiple times. They initially planned to launch a new group in 2023 and later pushed it to the 2nd half of 2024.
This year’s event is special since the label celebrates its 30th anniversary. A wide range of projects and events aimed at celebrating its 30 years of legacy are planned.
In 2025, SMTOWN LIVE 2025 will travel to Seoul (January), Mexico City (May), LA (May), London (June), and Tokyo (August).
In addition, SM Entertainment is set to launch a massive global audition to find the next generation of K-pop talent. Starting this month, the audition will take place across 17 cities in five countries: Korea, China, Japan, the US, and Canada. The audition is open to anyone born between 2005 and 2015, regardless of gender or nationality.
Lastly, SM Entertainment has launched many successful groups such as SHINee, EXO, aespa, RIIZE, Super Junior, Girls’ Generation, and more.
