Jennie Set to Make History with 1 Billion YouTube Views for Solo MV

Jennie in a teaser for single 'SOLO'

BLACKPINK’s Jennie reached a major milestone with her solo debut track, SOLO. The music video had surpassed 950 million views on YouTube, making it likely to become the first music video by a female K-pop soloist to reach 1 billion views by February 2024.

Released on November 12, 2018, SOLO marked Jennie’s first solo project outside of BLACKPINK. The song blends dance-pop and hip-hop, featuring a catchy chorus and empowering lyrics. Jennie contributed to the songwriting and styling, while the music video was directed by Han Sa Min and filmed in the United Kingdom.

By August 2023, SOLO had become the most-viewed YouTube video by a female K-pop soloist, surpassing previous records held by other artists. The track has also performed strongly on streaming platforms, including Spotify and iTunes, and remains a popular choice on K-pop playlists worldwide.

In early June, Jennie made her acting debut in HBO’s The Idol, playing Dyanne, a backup dancer and friend of the main character, Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp). While her performance and the dance scene went viral on social media, the series itself received heavy criticism for its writing, direction, and provocative content.

Critics widely panned The Idol, and HBO canceled the show after one season, concluding with just five episodes.

Besides making her acting debut, BLACKPINK is thriving with headlining performances at Coachella and BST Hyde Park. Meanwhile, the quartet will continue their world tour, Born Pink, in San Francisco and LA in the coming weeks. In addition, they will release BLACKPINK THE GAME and the OST The Girls on August 23.
