Song Kang has returned to civilian life after completing his mandatory military service. On October 1, 2025, he was discharged from the Army’s 2nd Corps in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, wrapping up 18 months of duty as an active-duty soldier.
Song Kang Stayed Active During Service
Song Kang enlisted on April 2, 2024, and while he stepped away from the drama scene, he didn’t disappear completely. The third and final season of his popular Netflix series, Sweet Home, was aired about three months after he enlisted.
During his enlistment, he became the host of the Defense Media Agency’s YouTube series, “Song Kang’s Military Story of the Day,” where he shared experiences from everyday military life. He also took part in a campaign video for the Defense Helpline, a counseling service for soldiers, showing a more approachable and relatable side to the public.
Plus, fans caught a surprise glimpse of him through a photo with BTS’s V, which circulated widely online and reminded many of Song Kang’s ongoing presence despite his service.
Possible K-drama Comeback with ‘Four Hands’
As news of his discharge spread, attention quickly shifted to his potential acting comeback. Song Kang is currently reviewing an offer to star in the upcoming drama “Four Hands.” His agency, Namoo Actors, confirmed that it is one of the projects on the table.
The drama will be set in an arts high school and explore the journeys of young people navigating friendship, love, rivalry, and self-discovery. The title “Four Hands” refers to a piano duet style in which two players share one instrument. If he accepts, Song Kang would play a piano prodigy, a character described as refined yet intense.
