Jo Yu Ri, the singer-turned-actress who captivated audiences worldwide with her standout performance in the hit Netflix series “Squid Game 2”, is gearing up for her next exciting project.
According to reports on January 7, Jo Yu Ri is currently in talks to star in a thriller drama directed by the acclaimed filmmaker behind Netflix’s “Mask Girl”.
The drama tentatively titled “Variety” is the latest project from director Kim Yong Hoon. He previously helmed the Netflix series “Mask Girl”, and “Beasts Crawling At Straws”. The film is a thriller that delves into the darker side of the K-pop idol industry.
Regarding her appearance in the drama, her agency WakeOne Entertainment told Newsen, saying, “We received an offer for the drama “Variety’ and are currently reviewing it.”
Jo Yu Ri recently made a notable appearance in the Netflix series “Squid Game 2”, released on December 26. She played the role of Jun Hee, a pregnant woman and former lover of Myeong-gi, portrayed by Im Siwan.
Despite not debuting as an actress, she left everyone in awe with her portrayal of Jun Hee. She debuted in the K-pop world as a member of the project girl group IZ*ONE in 2018, but the group went their separate ways after disbanding in 2021.
Jo Yu Ri continued her activities as a solo artist and made multiple comebacks with hit songs. Following the massive success of “Squid Game 2”, she has seamlessly made the leap from K-pop idol to an established actress. Fans are looking forward to her upcoming acting endeavors.
