Netflix is gearing up to deliver one of its most anticipated fantasy romantic comedies of the year with Genie, Make a Wish. The series will bring together the hit on-screen couple Kim Woo Bin and Bae Suzy for the first time since their 2016 drama Uncontrollably Fond. Written by Kim Eun Sook, best known for The Glory and Descendants of the Sun, the show blends whimsical fantasy with a sharp romantic edge.
‘Genie, Make a Wish’ Release Date
Suzy and Kim Woo Bin’s Genie, Make a Wish, will officially air on October 3, 2025, timed perfectly with Korea’s Chuseok holiday. The drama will feature 12 episodes and stream exclusively on Netflix, making it accessible to viewers worldwide. Subtitles in multiple languages will be available to allow international fans to experience the story alongside Korean audiences.
Plot Overview
At the heart of Genie, Make a Wish is Ka Young, played by Suzy, a young woman raised under the strict rules of her grandmother. Emotionless and bound by routine, Ka Young’s life feels predictable until she discovers a mysterious lamp. From it emerges Genie, portrayed by Kim Woo Bin, a mischievous spirit trapped for a thousand years.
But Genie is not what he seems—he is actually Iblis, a figure who believes humans are easily corrupted. Offering Ka Young three wishes, he challenges her in a “best-of-five” wager that tests not only her resilience but also his own views on humanity.
Cast and Characters
The drama reunites two of Korea’s most loved actors, Kim Woo Bin and Suzy, whose chemistry is already a major draw for fans. Kim takes on the role of Genie/Iblis, balancing devilish charm with comedic mischief. Bae portrays Ka Young, a stoic yet intriguing heroine.

Genie, Make a Wish Trailer
After dropping multiple teasers this month, Netflix released the official trailer on September 18, offering a first look at the unique chemistry between Genie and Ka Young. Genie asks her to make three wishes, saying, “Humans only realize their true colors when faced with the prospect of wishes. They cry, laugh, and even thrive, then all meet their end.”

Some of the promotional posters faced backlash from fans who felt the designs looked low-effort or AI-generated.
Production Team
The series comes from the pen of Kim Eun Sook, whose track record includes multiple global hits. Her writing credits include King: The Eternal Monarch, The Glory, The Heirs, Descendants of the Sun, and more. Originally, director Lee Byung Hun was attached to the project, but Ahn Gil Jo eventually took over the role, bringing his experience from Record of Youth and The Glory.
Produced by Hwa&Dam Pictures and Studio Dragon, the drama was filmed in several locations, including Dubai, which gives it a visually grand backdrop. Kim Eun Sook has described the drama as a “stress-free, frustration-free fantasy romantic comedy,” designed to appeal to families and fans alike.
Mark your calendar for October 3, when Genie, Make a Wish will be available on Netflix.
