Get ready to cry all over again – this time in Turkish!”
Netflix’s most streamed Kdrama of 2024, “Queen of Tears,” (starring Kim Ji Won and Kim Soo Hyun) is getting a Turkish remake.
Turkish production companies O3 Medya and Dass Yapim have acquired the remake rights for the popular Netflix drama “Queen of Tears”, foreign media outlets reported on October 21.
The companies are set to partner on the production of the show’s Turkish version. The original series, produced by Studio Dragon, was a hit on tvN and Netflix.
To bring the Turkish adaptation of “Queen of Tears” to life, O3 Medya and Dass Yapim are currently in talks with popular Turkish actors. Notably, Basak Soysal is slated to direct the project.
This is not Turkey’s first foray into adapting popular Korean dramas. Earlier this year, deals were struck for the Turkish remakes of “Doctor Cha” and “King The Land”, and now, “Queen of Tears” joins the growing list.
“Queen of Tears” premiered on tvN in March and concluded in April this year with historic ratings. It surpassed “Crash Landing on You” and “Goblin” in viewership ratings, becoming tvN’s highest-rated drama.
It achieved top rankings in Netflix’s non-English TV series category. “Queen of Tears” was the most-streamed Netflix drama of the year with 29 million viewers and 682,600,000 watch hours.
The drama follows a couple’s journey to rekindle their love amidst marital struggles, with Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won playing the lead roles.
