2024 was a game-changer for Weverse, the popular platform where K-pop fans connect with their favorite artists. The company’s latest report reveals a surge in new users, explosive growth in overseas artist teams, and record-breaking sales on Weverse Shop.
Besides all, Byeon Woo Seok made a record-breaking debut on the portal and Jungkook remains a fan-favorite.
Weverse Company, run by HYBE, dropped its ‘2024 Weverse Fandom Trend’ report on January 22. Last year, 16 international artist teams joined the platform, which is 30% of the total 53 teams on Weverse.
Weverse has experienced the largest increase in users since its launch in June 2019. The platform saw a 19% increase in users across Asia, Europe, Africa, and other regions.
Several high-profile artists joined the platform last year, including Conan Gray, Ariana Grande, and Dua Lipa. As a result, these artists’ fan bases have also expanded on Weverse. Notably, KATSEYE, Ariana Grande, and Conan Gray were the top three North American artists to gain new subscribers.
Last year, artists from various genres joined the platform including musical actors, trot singers, and actors. “Lovely Runner” actor Byeon Woo Seok, Shin Se Kyung, musical actors Jung Sun Ah and Min Kyung Ah, and singer Young Tak joined the platform.
Byeon Woo Seok’s community gained 74,000 members in just 24 hours after joining. He was followed closely by J-pop unit YOASOBI and pop star Ariana Grande.
Weverse Shop reported sales of 20.6 million products last year, a 13% increase from the previous year. The top countries for purchases were Japan, the United States, and China.
Sales of physical products, including albums and merchandise, rose 10%. Digital products saw a 24% increase, with 3.4 million units sold. Artist official memberships were the most popular digital product.
Weverse also offered exclusive entertainment content, such as SEVENTEEN’s “Nana Tour” series, which was a huge hit on the platform.
Weverse’s annual statistics show that artists posted around 206,000 times, and fans posted 370 million times. Mujin of The KingDom was the most frequent user among artists, accessing the platform 3,451 times. In terms of engagement, SEVENTEEN made the most posts, and ENHYPEN commented the most. Additionally, usage of Weverse DM, a private messaging feature, also increased
The messaging statistics show that artists received 96.36 million direct messages from fans, and sent 698,000 messages in return. Byeon Woo Seok received the highest number of DMs, at 16.4 million.
Remi Tokunaga of AKB48 was the artist who sent the most DMs to fans. AKB48 members were also among the top daily DM senders.
4.88 million fan letters were sent to artists. BTS’ Jungkook received the highest number of fan letters, while BOYNEXTDOOR’s Lee Han reacted to the fan letters the most.
Weverse Live, a live video streaming feature, aired 5,787 broadcasts with 4,779 hours last year. The platform drew 11.25 million viewers and garnered 426 million views.
Users spent a combined 15,814 hours watching Weverse Live. The regions with the highest average viewing time per user were Asia, Oceania, and North America.
The average user viewed 50 Weverse Live streams, including replays, per year. Users from Asia, Oceania, and North America were particularly active in watching live content.
BTS’ Jungkook’s “I Missed You So Much” live on December 18 during his military leave topped the charts with 23 million cumulative views, making it the most-watched Weverse Live video.
Weverse continues to grow as more local and international artists join the platform. Like last year, it is expected to break more records in 2025.
