Wheesung, a talented singer-songwriter, tragically passed away on March 10. His family will hold a private funeral to say goodbye. Meanwhile, the police are investigating the circumstances of his death to determine what happened.
On March 11, Tajo Entertainment released a statement revealing that Wheesung’s family is overwhelmed with grief and shock, which makes it difficult for them to make funeral arrangements at this time.
The agency added that the family will proceed with the funeral when they are emotionally ready, and it will be a private ceremony attended only by close family, relatives, and friends, as per the family’s wishes.
On the other hand, Seoul’s Gwangjin Police Station has launched an investigation into the death of Wheesung. Authorities plan to request an autopsy from the National Institute of Scientific Investigation to uncover the exact cause and timeline of his passing.
The 43-year-old singer was found in cardiac arrest at an apartment in Gwangjin-gu around 6:29 p.m. the previous day and was later pronounced dead. Emergency responders, including the fire department, were dispatched to the scene after receiving a call from his mother. As the investigation continues, police have found no evidence of foul play, such as forced entry. They are now exploring other possibilities, including whether he left a will.
Wheesung began his journey in the entertainment industry with his time as a member of the dance team ‘ING’ from 1997 to 1999. He then worked as a backup dancer for SM Entertainment artists. After a brief stint with the group ‘A4’, Wheesung joined the online music community ‘SNP’. He later made his solo debut with the album ‘Like A Movie’ in 2002.
In 2019, Wheesung faced charges for purchasing and using propofol, a controlled substance, on multiple occasions. Initially, he denied the allegations but later admitted to the charges after being found unconscious in a bathroom. He was sentenced to one year in prison and two years of probation.
Meanwhile, he was scheduled to perform at a concert with artist KCM on March 15. Tragically, news of his passing broke on March 10.
