Actress Suzy will not attend the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) as she is committed to overseas filming for her upcoming Disney+ series Delusion, slated for release next year.

On September 22, it was confirmed that scheduling adjustments were not possible due to the demands of on-location shoots abroad, which require long-term coordination with local teams. BIFF 2025 began on September 17 and has already been attended by big-name celebrities like Han Sohee, Jeon Jongseo, Lisa from BLACKPINK, Rowoon, Son Ye Jin, Lee Byung Hun, and more.

Despite her absence, Suzy’s latest film, Seven O’Clock Breakfast Club for the Brokenhearted, remains one of the most anticipated entries at this year’s festival. The film has been invited to the “Busan Award,” BIFF’s first official competition category introduced to mark its 30th anniversary.

Directed by Lim Sun Ae and adapted from Baek Yeong Ok’s novel, the film revolves around individuals struggling with heartbreak who gather at a breakfast meeting to share stories, exchange keepsakes from past relationships, and find ways to heal.

Suzy plays Sa Gang, a flight attendant unable to accept the end of a relationship. Her co-star Lee Jin Wook takes on the role of Ji Hoon, a consultant lecturer coping with the collapse of his long-term relationship. Yoo Ji Tae and Geum Sae Rok portray characters with their own narratives of loss.

The 2025 edition of BIFF marks a milestone, with the festival celebrating its 30th year as one of Asia’s most influential film events. Running from September 17 to 26, the festival features 328 films from 64 countries, screened at the Busan Cinema Center and other theaters across the city.

For its anniversary, BIFF introduced the “Busan Award,” its first-ever official competition section. Fourteen Asian films, including Seven O’Clock Breakfast Club for the Brokenhearted, have been selected to compete. Awards will be presented in five categories: Grand Prize, Best Director, Special Jury Award, Best Actor, and Artistic Contribution Award.

Although Suzy could not attend the festival due to her filming schedule, the anticipation for her film remains strong. Tickets for the screenings of Seven O’Clock Breakfast Club for the Brokenhearted sold out in advance. Director Lim Sun Ae, along with cast members Lee Jin Wook, Yoo Ji Tae, and Geum Sae Rok, represented the film at the opening red carpet on September 17. The cast will not attend the Guest Visit (GV) session at the Busan Cinema Center’s Sky Theater today.

Meanwhile, Suzy will star in a 12-episode fantasy romance drama, Genie, Make a Wish, with Kim Woo Bin, on October 3, exclusively available on Netflix.
