As the most anticipated musical film of 2025, Wicked: For Good is set to deliver an unforgettable finale to the two-part cinematic adaptation of Broadway’s beloved Wicked. More than just a simple “Part Two,” the title “For Good” is a meaningful tribute to the musical’s most memorable and moving song.
Directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, this sequel picks up where Wicked (2024) left off. It dives deeper into the fractured friendship between Elphaba and Glinda while introducing darker themes, new musical numbers, and the long-awaited arrival of Dorothy Gale.
Wicked: For Good has become a hot topic following its record-breaking prequel, which earned 10 Academy Award nominations. It also became the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation ever with over $750 million worldwide.
Wicked: For Good Release Date
Wicked: For Good is scheduled for release on November 21, 2025, nearly a year after the release of Part 1.
Plot Overview
Wicked: For Good adapts the second act of the 2003 musical, exploring the fallout from Elphaba and Glinda’s choices in Part 1.
Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), now known as the Wicked Witch of the West, lives hidden in the forests of Oz. She continues fighting to free the Animals and reveal the truth about the Wizard’s web of lies. Meanwhile, Glinda (Ariana Grande) has become Oz’s beloved symbol of goodness and the wizard’s poster child for all things pure and love, living in luxury at the Emerald City palace. Under Madame Morrible’s guidance, Glinda uses her popularity to keep Oz’s citizens happy and support the Wizard’s rule.
As Glinda prepares to marry Prince Fiyero in a grand wedding, she can’t stop thinking about Elphaba. She tries to help Elphaba and the Wizard make peace, but this only makes things worse between them. These events change Fiyero and Boq forever and put Elphaba’s sister Nessarose in danger, especially when a girl from Kansas arrives in Oz.
With angry crowds turning against the Wicked Witch, Glinda and Elphaba must come together one last time. Their friendship, once so strong, now holds the key to changing both their futures and the future of Oz itself. To truly make things right, they will need to understand each other completely – the good and the wicked. This is their final chance to fix what went wrong and make a real difference in Oz.
Though her face remains unseen in the trailer, Dorothy’s presence is central to the film’s plot. In an interview with Screen Rant last year, Chu hinted that her arc will intersect meaningfully with the witches’ fates.
The (Dorothy) presence is important because that plays a significant role in what will happen and how they intersect. That was sort of how we played with it. But you will have to see movie 2 to know how far we go with her.
Wicked: For Good Trailer
On June 4, Universal dropped the hugely-awaited Wicked: For Good trailer after keeping fans waiting for over half a year. The trailer opens with Glinda calling the witch, saying, “Elphaba Thrope, I know you’re out here. Just come in before the monkeys spot you.”

Music
The Wicked: For Good soundtrack will include all the original Broadway songs, such as No Good Deed Goes Unpunished and the emotional duet For Good. Plus, composer Stephen Schwartz has written two brand-new songs specifically for the film.
While speaking to The Messenger, Schwartz explained that these new songs were essential for the story, including a solo for Elphaba.
Cynthia Erivo has hinted that one of these new songs, sung by her character, will be “very, very special” during Variety’s Awards Circuit.
As Chu told Entertainment Weekly, “If Part 1 is about choices, Part 2 is about consequences… It’s messy, but worth it”.
Mark your calendar for November 21, 2025, when Wicked: For Good hits cinemas.
