Cha Eunwoo, a member of ASTRO, officially enlisted in the South Korean military on July 28. The idol-actor entered a training center where he will undergo five weeks of basic training before beginning his duties in the Republic of Korea Army’s military band. His discharge is expected on January 27 2027.
Ahead of his enlistment, Cha Eunwoo took time to communicate openly with fans, sharing both his thoughts and his appreciation. On July 25, he posted a message along with new photos, expressing that his upcoming enlistment “still doesn’t feel real.”
In a message through his fan communication platform, he said he plans to “grow and improve” during his service and emphasized that there are “many things” he wants to explore once he returns.
He also reassured fans that while he is away, they can enjoy his upcoming solo album, film, and drama, which are set to be released during his military service. “Please don’t forget me,” he said.
At his final fan meeting held on July 12, he reflected on the moment with gratitude, stating, “Thanks to all of you, I will go and come back happy and healthy,” and added, “Let’s definitely meet again.” He also shared a personal video of himself cutting his hair, a customary act for many Korean men before enlistment.
Cha Eunwoo’s solo album is still in the process of scheduling its release date. However, two major screen projects featuring him are confirmed to premiere during his time in the military. The Netflix drama The Wonderfools, in which he plays the lead, will be released while he is serving. In addition, his lead film The First Ride is confirmed for an October theatrical release.
The First Ride is a comedy film that centers on a group of five friends who have known each other for 24 years and go on their first overseas trip together. The cast includes Kang Ha Neul, Kim Young Kwang, Kang Young Seok, Han Sun Hwa, and Cha Eunwoo, who plays Yeonmin.
In addition, Cha stars in the upcoming Netflix original series The Wonderfools. The drama tells the story of young adults who suddenly gain supernatural abilities.
Meanwhile, Cha Eunwoo will return to the spotlight on January 27, 2027 after serving in the military for 1.5 years.
