Zico has been under a lot of negative spotlight lately ever since the BBC’s revealing Burning Sun documentary was released.
While there is no mention of Zico’s involvement in the scandal, netizens are criticizing him and many other artists for their associations with the convicts of Burning Sun. Some are even blaming them for being knowledgeable of their heinous crimes and not doing anything about it.
Another incident has resurfaced in the midst of all, Zico made a comment on a variety show in 2016 about Jung Joon Young 9one of the convicts of Burning Sun scandal) having a special phone for Kakaotalk.
He mentioned that he would often visit Jung’s home and use the phone, leading many to assume that Zico was referring to the same phone allegedly used by Jung for illegal activities, including sharing explicit and harmful content involving women.
More recently, the SPOT! Rapper took to Instagram to share his opinion and address the controversy, saying, “The story of the cell phone I mentioned on broadcast is entirely unrelated to the current scandal. All I saw through this cell phone in question was a list of contacts, and it has been a long time since I’ve been in touch [with Jung Joon Young] personally.
He asked people to refrain from spreading false information, “Please refrain from jumping to any suspicions, and against any spread of malicious comments or false rumors, I will respond with strict legal action.”
It is worth noting that the 31-year-old rapper immediately unfollowed Jung Joon Young after the scandal was not a member of the group, nor was he investigated by the police.
