K-pop icon G-Dragon ended his seven-year solo hiatus with the surprise release of his single “POWER”. The song was announced on October 31 at midnight and dropped at 6 PM KST.
G-Dragon’s “Power” Domestic Chart Performance
The song is taking the domestic and international music charts by storm. As of 8 PM KST, the song is currently charting #2 on Melon, #2 on Genie, #1 on Bug, and #16 on FLO.
Moreover, “POWER” broke the record for the highest 1st hour unique listeners on Melon, with 83,313 ULs. He surpassed IU’s “Love Wins All” (58,787) and Zico, Jennie’s “SPOT!” (45,546).
The BIGBANG leader also achieved roof-hit on the Melon HOT 100 twice, the first male soloist to do so.
Not to mention, it is the first and only song of 2024 to debut in FLO within an hour of its release. The music video has surpassed 2.1 million views and 307K likes.
Platinum Certification
In addition, “Power” earned Golf certification within 4 minutes of its release, by selling 102,264 copies on QQ Music in China. It achieved double gold for selling 125K copies in 13 minutes and became the 7th-best-selling single of the year within 25 minutes.
That’s not all, G-Dragon’s “Power” was certified platinum for selling 250K copies within 1 hour and 15 minutes of its release. At the time of writing, the single has surpassed 300,000 sales in China.
Lastly, all these records were made a short while after “POWER” was made available for streaming. It shows how much fans were waiting for G-Dragon to return to the music scene. Fans are now looking forward to his performance at the MAMA Awards on November 23, the final day of the award show.
