Tensions are running high in the ENHYPEN fandom as member Jungwon faces intense scrutiny over recent dating rumors.
The ENHYPEN leader was falsely accused of dating aespa member Winter after blurry photos were leaked. However, SM Entertainment and BELIFT LAB quickly denied rumors and exposed the motive behind the leaked photos.
SM Entertainment revealed that the perpetrator attempted to blackmail the agency for money. After being denied, they intentionally spread the rumors. The agency has vowed to take legal action against the responsible individual.
In addition, a fake photo of Jungwon smoking also went viral, which enraged a segment of fans. Later, he directly addressed the fans’ concerns during Weverse live saying that he is not dating anyone and does not smoke.
It has been around two weeks since the dating rumors and the smoking photo circulated online. Antis have been recording their protests in various ways by sending trucks, and wreaths to HYBE, calling for his removal from the group.
Despite Jungwon personally setting the record straight on recent controversies, the criticism has not stopped.
ENGENEs and numerous K-pop fans are slamming the ongoing protests as baseless and unnecessary, pointing out that Jungwon has already addressed and clarified the rumors.
Fans are urging BELIFT LAB to take action and protect Jungwon from the relentless bullying and harsh criticism he is facing.
Despite the outpouring of support, K-pop idols facing backlash for dating is an all-too-familiar scenario. Many are forced to keep their relationships under wraps. If rumors emerge, they often face intense scrutiny, with some even being pressured to leave their groups.
A recent example is RIIZE’s Seunghan, who faced severe consequences after pre-debut photos with his girlfriend surfaced. He was forced to halt activities for 10 months, and upon his return, antis vehemently protested, ultimately leading to his departure from the group in October.
In other news, fans can catch ENHYPEN’s performance on SBS Gayo Daejeon on December 25.
