Are IU and Lee Jong Suk Still Dating? Here’s the Truth

Rumors about IU and Lee Jong Suk’s relationship status have been swirling lately, especially after IU was spotted having dinner with BTS’s V. Fans started wondering—did they break up? But before the speculation spiraled, a source close to them stepped in to set the record straight.

As per an exclusive report by OSEN on May 20, Lee Jong Suk and IU are still together, contrary to speculation. Recently, breakup rumors have been spreading online, but people close to the couple told OSEN, “They’re still seeing each other well,” dismissing the rumors.

IU and Lee Jong Suk have been publicly dating since December 2022, after Dispatch reported their romantic relationship. They transitioned from longtime friends to one of Korea’s most low-key celebrity couples. Unlike flashy public displays, they have supported each other quietly and earned praise for their mature approach to dating. 

Since going public with their relationship, they have kept things low-key, only making rare public appearances together. One of these special moments came in January 2023 when IU attended the wedding of Lee’s brother, where she even performed a heartfelt congratulatory song.  

The “Pinocchio” actor has also shown his support in meaningful ways, like attending the opening concert of IU’s world tour “HEREH” in March last year.

Recently, the Love Wins All singer playfully dodged a relationship question during promotions for When Life Gives You Tangerines, joking, 

He is really busy, so I don’t think he has had a chance to see it. At least that’s what I assume since I know he has been very busy. When Life Gives You Tangerines promotions end today, so right now my world only revolves around Gwan Sik (the drama’s character). I only know Yang Gwan Sik. (Laugh) Maybe tomorrow, I will finally be able to talk about my boyfriend.

Her lighthearted comment and tone during the interview suggested that their bond remains strong.

Yet breakup rumors flared after IU celebrated her May 16 birthday with BTS’s V, singer Im Seulong, and a female acquaintance at a lavish Seoul restaurant. While it was simply a private gathering among friends, dating rumors spiraled online.  

Beyond the spotlight, IU and Lee Jong Suk have quietly built a relationship rooted in shared values. When devastating wildfires hit Gyeongnam and Gyeongbuk earlier this year, IU donated 200 million won and Lee Jong Suk 100 million won to relief efforts.  

These days, both are deep in work mode. Lee Jong Suk is gearing up for an international shoot for The Remarried Empress after wrapping the filming of the drama Seocho-dong, while IU is putting the finishing touches on her Flower Bookmark 3 remake album, out on May 27.
