Bang Chan’s weekly live show, Chan’s Room, quietly stopped in May, and fans spent months wondering why. The break came shortly after the Stray Kids leader found himself caught in unexpected controversy because of comments he made during one of his broadcasts.

In the May 14, 2023 episode, Bang Chan talked about manners in the industry and how greeting seniors used to be “basic manners.” He said he felt that some younger idols didn’t always return greetings, and it left him confused. He didn’t name anyone, and even mentioned they could have simply been “shy or unsure.”

Many netizens began guessing who he meant, and some jumped to the conclusion that he was referring to IVE. It created a large debate and criticism formed around both Bang Chan and the group people assumed he was talking about.

Three days later, on May 17, Bang Chan apologized through Stray Kids’ official Instagram. In his statement, he said he was sorry for the “offense caused by his comments” and explained that he had taken time to reflect on how his words affected others.

He also stressed that he never meant to point to a specific artist and that the guesses circulating online were not true. He promised to be more thoughtful in the future so a situation like this would not happen again.

No more chan’s room?😥 This breaks my heart especially that I find comfort and a sense of belonging through his lives. It has become stays’ source of happiness and a way to escape harsh realities. A world where we can let go, at least for an hour. I’m devastated for Chan & Stays pic.twitter.com/CBLV3tHnpr

That episode became the last Chan’s Room broadcast. The show went on an indefinite break without any official explanation from JYP Entertainment

Months later, fans finally got an answer. A short clip from a recent fan meeting began spreading online. It showed Bang Chan talking about the show. In the video, he said he wanted to continue Chan’s Room, but the company did not allow him to. He told fans, in simple words, “I can’t do ‘Chan’s Room’ anymore, so, I want to actually, but the company says no.”

For quite a while, Chan’s Room had been a comforting weekly space where Bang Chan talked freely, played music, and connected with fans in a personal way. After the clip surfaced, fans expressed their sadness and frustration on social media.

JYP Entertainment never released a statement about why the show was stopped. However, the timeline makes it clear that the controversy and the backlash that followed played a major role in the decision.

For now, Chan’s Room remains paused, and fans still hope that someday Bang Chan will be allowed to bring it back.
