BLACKPINK members have proven that they are unstoppable, both as a group and as solo performers. The past year and a half has been game-changing for the 4-member K-pop girl group as they showed their artistic growth through individual releases.

BLACKPINK activities were put on hold after their world tour “Born Pink” Seoul encore concerts in September 2023. A lot has happened since then, they have been managing their solo activities under separate agencies. All BLACKPINK members have now released solo albums, with Jennie the last one to release an album on March 7.

So, it is the perfect time to look back at their releases and introduce some fun and soulful songs to new BLINKs.

Jisoo

While Jisoo is the only BLACKPINK member who has yet to release a studio album, it does not mean she has no good songs under her belt. From her solo debut in 2023 to her subsequent release last month, the 30-year-old K-pop star has delivered many hits, worthy of adding to the playlist.

  • “Flower” – “Flower” from her debut single album “ME” is about breaking free from a toxic relationship.  She uses a flower to show how the relationship started out beautiful but then faded away. However, it can not be reduced to an average break-up anthem.
  • “Your Love” – While “earthquake” from Jisoo’s 4-track album “AMORTAGE” takes the spotlight, its b-sides cannot be underestimated. “Your Love” is an English song, co-written by the BLACKPINK’s lead vocalist herself. “Your Love” has a catchy, sing-along chorus that’s sure to get stuck in the head. Who wouldn’t want to shout “I swear that we’ll be young forever” with their favorite people?
  • “Hugs & Kisses” – This is the closing English song “Hugs & Kisses” of her EP “AMORTAGE”. It shows how much Jisoo has grown as an artist. The song starts simple and then builds to a classic pop-rock sound with a haunting touch. The “All Eyes on Me” singer sends a strong message to someone who has been playing games with her heart, saying she’s tired of being their backup plan and won’t accept their excuses.

Jennie

Jennie was the first BLACKPINK member to go solo in 2018 with the digital single, “Solo”, which surpassed 1 billion views on YouTube. She has received critical acclaim with her 15-track album “Ruby”, dropped on March 7. Multiple pre-release songs made the Billboard HOT 100 even before the album’s release such as “Mantra”, “Love Hangover”, and “ExtraL”.

Here are some of the standout tracks from her solo discography

  • “You & Me” – “You & Me” is a dance-pop and EDM song, penned by Teddy and Danny Chung, which captures the bliss of being in love. The chorus “I love you & me / Dancing in the moonlight / Nobody can see / It’s just you and me tonight / I love you and me” makes one want to sing along. The song was released in October 2023 without any promotions.
  • “ExtraL” – “ExtraL” is one of the standout tracks of the album “Ruby”, featuring Doechii. This third pre-release single from the album is a hip-hop anthem that has a catchy and powerful chorus.JENNIE and Doechii team up for a confident and empowering anthem. Jennie starts strong with a high-energy intro and verse, proudly showing off her independence and influence. Then, Doechii joins in with an exciting introduction, adding her own energetic vibe to the track.
  • “Twin” – It is the closing track of “Ruby”, and one of the least talked about. ‘Twin’ shows a more personal and vulnerable side of the global pop star. In ‘Twin’, Jennie opens up about a past relationship that is still on her mind. She sings about the memories they shared, admitting they were young and innocent, but also flawed. The song takes a heartbreaking turn when she hints at hoping they’ll reconnect someday, singing “We will make up… when we get older, friend.”

Rosé

Rosé made her solo debut in 2021 with a single album “R” and over 3 years later, she released her first studio album. Among all the BLACKPINK members, her performance on the charts is quite impressive.

  • “APT.” – This song needs no introduction by now. It proved that Rosé can ace both dance songs and emotional ballads. The BLACKPINK member teamed up with American singer and labelmate Bruno Mars on this upbeat song. Despite being released in October 2024, the song is still charting in the top 10 of Billboard HOT 100.
  • “3am” – While ‘toxic till the end’ was promoted more for being the lead single, the b-side song “3 am” from “rosie” is worth a listen. The song perfectly captures the heartbreak and complexities of love with the lyrics, “It’s 3am / I am losing myself and my mind again / The one who gives me love that’s bulletproof / The world can roll their eyes but there’s no use / I just wanted to be you”.
  • “Stay a Little Longer” – A fun fact here, it is also the song recommended by BTS V. Rosé’s song “Stay A Little Longer” is a heartfelt plea to someone not to leave. She is struggling to cope with the thought of being apart and feels overwhelmed by the emptiness. Desperate for more time, she asks them to stay a little longer.

Lisa

Last but not least, Lisa has made the most headlines, not just for her music but for her performances on world stages as well. She released the 15-track album “ALTER EGO”, collaborated with international artists, and made her Hollywood debut. The BLACKPINK maknae also became the first K-pop artist to perform at Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and Oscars 2025.

Here are some tracks to listen to from her solo discography

  • “Born Again” – This collaboration single with Raye and Doja Cat earned her highest HOT 100 solo debut. Lisa kicks off the song “Born Again” with her effortless rap skills, followed by a catchy chorus with Raye. Doja Cat then adds her own pop flair with a standout verse. Raye’s sultry vocals shine in the bridge, and the three artists come together for a stunning harmony in the outro.
  • “Chill” – Lisa saves the best for last on “Chill”, the final track of “ALTER EGO”. She starts with her signature melodic rap, building up to a heavenly pre-chorus and an excellent chorus that blends rap and vocals. The song peaks in the bridge, with haunting background vocals and an intense drumbeat.
  • “Lifestyle” – Lisa’s song “Lifestyle” shows off her skills as both a singer and rapper. The song has a catchy beat and a strong chorus that features Lisa’s signature melodic rapping style. The chorus is especially powerful because it switches between chanting and singing.

  • “All Eyes On Me” (Jisoo)
  • “earthquake” (Jisoo)
  • “Love Hangover” (Jennie)
  • “Handlebars” (Jennie with Dua Lipa)
