On August 19, BIGBANG celebrated their 18th debut anniversary.
To commemorate this milestone, G-Dragon shared the album cover of their 2022 digital single Still Life on his social media account, captioning it “#bigbang18thanniversary.” He also tagged fellow members Taeyang and Daesung in the post.
Taeyang joined in the celebration by posting a photo of 18 yellow hearts on his social media account, captioned “#18thanniversary ♥.”
Daesung also celebrated it with a congratulatory message on his official social media account.
BIGBANG debuted on August 19, 2006, at a concert celebrating YG Family’s 10th anniversary. Their first single album, ‘Bigbang’, was released on August 29, 2006, followed by Bigbang Vol. 1 in December 2006, and featured a mix of ballads, dance, and hip-hop songs that fans loved.
BIGBANG quickly became popular worldwide, winning many awards at home and abroad. Just two years after debuting, they won the prestigious Daesang Award.
Despite their success, BIGBANG’s 18-year journey was not smooth sailing and they have had their fair share of challenges. The group originally had five members, but now only three remain: G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung. This is because T.O.P and Seungri left the group after a series of controversies.
T.O.P, the oldest member, got into trouble for using marijuana. In 2017, he was investigated by the police for smoking marijuana while working as a conscripted police officer during military service.
T.O.P admitted to using marijuana and was sentenced to 10 months in prison and 2 years of probation.
The youngest member of BIGBANG, Seungri, was forced to leave the group and entertainment industry after his involvement in the Burning Sun scandal. He was charged with multiple crimes, including arranging prostitution, filming sexual acts without consent, habitual gambling, assault, and more.
For 18 incredible years, BIGBANG has held a special place in fans’ hearts. With a string of hits, they achieved huge success and dominated the K-pop scene in their heyday.
