BLACKPINK’s Lisa and Rosalía’s “New Woman” has surprisingly made the list for Worst Song of 2024. Despite being one of the most highly-anticipated collabs of the year, the song has not quite hit the mark with listeners.
On December 23, Variety published its list of the worst songs of 2023, unexpectedly naming BLACKPINK Lisa’s 2024 single “New Woman” as the worst song of the year. Release from many renowned artists such as Katy Perry, Ice Spice, Nicki Minaj, Meghan Trainor, Camila Cabello, and more made the list.
According to Variety, despite both artists being incredibly talented, their joint effort “sounds great in theory, but fails in practice.”
Individually, Lisa and Rosalía are known for their unique styles and exceptional vocal skills. However, when they came together for “New Woman,” something did not quite click.
Variety stated that the song starts off with Lisa setting the tone for “a new path of edgy experimentation.” The upbeat tempo is engaging, but it comes to an abrupt halt around the one-minute mark, and the song takes a completely different turn. This is where Rosalía enters, but her introduction feels disconnected from the rest of the song.
As Variety noted, her entrance is “an obvious marker that artists recorded their part separately,” and unfortunately, the song does not recover from this disjointedness.
Lisa dropped her first solo release “ROCKSTAR” in June followed by “New Woman” with Rosalía in August. The song is also part of her upcoming studio album “ALTER EGO”, dropping in February 2025.
In addition, Variety named Jojo Siwa’s “Karma” Nicki Minaj’s “Big Foot”, Katy Perry’s “Woman’s World”, Julia Fox’s “Down The Drain” and others as the worst songs of 2024.
