BLACKPINK’s Rosé has made a surprise exit from the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA). The move, which was finalized last month, means Rosé will now manage her own music rights independently.

The “APT.” singer had filed for contract termination on October 31 of the previous year. After a standard three-month waiting period, the contract was officially terminated on January 31.

Rosé is only the second Korean singer to leave KOMCA, following in the footsteps of Seo Taiji, who did not renew his contract back in 2002.

Going forward, her music copyrights will be handled by a US-based publisher. In addition, her label Atlantic Records will oversee profit distribution on her behalf.

Atlantic Records partners with top US copyright management agencies to oversee its global copyright portfolio. Through these partnerships, the label works with organizations like ASCAP and BMI to manage international copyrights.

This approach is commonly adopted by international artists, and given Rosé’s US-based activities, it is likely to streamline her copyright management.

In October 2024, it was revealed that Rosé had established a music publishing company, Dream Apt Publishing LLC, in Nevada.

The company is reported to manage music rights, distribution, and licensing for her high-profile releases. It is not yet confirmed if the 28-year-old K-pop star will manage her copyrights through Dream Apt Publishing LLC.

Rosé is currently the most sought-after solo artist in the US. Her hit collaboration with Bruno Mars, “APT.”, has taken the world by storm. The pre-release single debuted at No. 8 on HOT 100 in November 2023, and has consistently ranked in the Top 3 for the past few weeks.

Last December, she dropped her debut full-length album “rosie”, and is credited as songwriter for every track. She also co-composed two standout songs: “APT.” and “number one girl”.

Meanwhile, Rosé will resume BLACKPINK activities along with other members this year. So, far, their 2025 world tour has already been announced ahead of BLACKPINK’s comeback. Kicking off in Korea on July 5-6, the tour will make stops in major cities across the US, Europe, and Japan, including France, Italy, Spain, and the UK.
