It’s finally happening—BTS’s military era has officially come to an end. Today (June 21), Suga, the last member of BTS to complete his mandatory military service, was discharged. This marks the start of an exciting new chapter for the group and their fans around the world. Now, ARMYs (BTS fans) look forward to their long-awaited reunion and future group activities.

Suga Wraps Up His Alternative Service

Suga quietly finished his military duties as a social service worker on June 18, using up his remaining vacation days. His official discharge date is still June 21, but with his leave, his service was effectively three days over.

BIGHIT MUSIC shared that there won’t be any special events or public appearances to mark his discharge and celebrate the beginning of this new chapter

Unlike other members, the “Haegum” rapper served as a social service agent instead of an active-duty soldier because of his past shoulder injury. Still, he completed his service with dedication, just like his bandmates. Suga was enlisted on September 22, 2023, and completed 21 months of alternative service on June 21, 2025.

While the 32-year-old rapper rarely connected with fans or was spotted in public during this period, he was embroiled in a DUI incident in early August 2024.

As a result, he faced heavy media attention and public criticism for riding the scooter while under the influence of alcohol. He was summoned by the Seoul police for questioning and later received 15 million won. Other than the public appearance at the police station, the BTS rapper remained low-key.

Now that his alternative service is complete, Suga is ready for a fresh start. Fans can look forward to new music from him and the return of his talk show, Suchwita.

The BTS Military Chapter Comes to a Close

BTS’ military journey began back in December 2022, when Jin became the first member to enlist. Since then, j-hope, Suga, RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook each followed one by one. BTS officially paused group activities during this time, though the members kept busy with solo albums, fan messages, and occasional updates.

Jin returned to civilian life on June 12, 2024, followed by j-hope on October 17, 2024. RM and V completed their service on June 10, 2025, with Jimin and Jungkook finishing just a day later. With Suga now discharged, all seven members are officially back.

Earlier this month, fans were thrilled when BTS reunited quietly at J-Hope’s “Hope on the Stage” concert in Goyang. The event also happened to fall on BTS’s 12th anniversary, making it an especially meaningful day for both the members and ARMY.

Even though there weren’t any big public celebrations, the simple act of seeing the group together again touched fans worldwide.

What’s Next For BTS?

So what’s next? BIGHIT MUSIC hasn’t confirmed a specific comeback date just yet. But Korea Herald reported that BTS is planning to return as a full group around March 2026.

Previously, HYBE CEO Lee Jae Sang dished on the BTS reunion and comeback at the shareholders’ meeting in April, stating

BTS members are scheduled to return after completing their military service in the first half of this year, so they need time to prepare and work on their activities after their return. The company is also discussing and preparing with top-tier composers, but the artists need to think carefully and prepare.

Before then, the members are expected to take some well-deserved rest and may continue focusing on solo projects for a while longer. Over the past two years, each member has developed their own musical style and career path, which will likely bring new energy to their group work moving forward.

As BTS members returned, HYBE’s market capitalization, which stood at 8.1491 trillion won at the beginning of January, rose to 12.4956 trillion won by the closing on June 19. This marks an increase of about 4.3 trillion won, or roughly 53%.

Fans are also hoping for new albums, fan events, and possibly a world tour, though nothing has been officially announced. One thing is certain—the demand for BTS’s comeback is huge.
