Choo Young Woo might soon be teaming up with acclaimed director Ahn Pan Seok for a new romance drama. As reported by Kmedia on November 4, the 26-year-old actor has received an offer to play the male lead in ENA’s upcoming series “Love Expert” and is favorably considering the role.
If confirmed, this would mark Choo Young Woo’s first collaboration with the veteran director Ahn Pan Seok. “Love Expert” is already drawing attention as Kim So Hyun is reportedly in talks to play the female lead.
The upcoming drama “Love Expert” will tell the story of Min Jae, a doctoral student who once dreamed of becoming a swimmer but had to let go of that dream due to unexpected circumstances. Now focused on his academic life, Min Jae crosses paths with Yoo Jin, a master’s student who is also starting over after going through her own struggles.
If Choo accepts, he will take on the role of Min Jae, while Kim So Hyun is being considered for Yoo Jin. Director Ahn Pan Seok is one of Korea’s most respected storytellers, known for crafting mature, slow-burning romance dramas. His past works include “Secret Love Affair,” “Something in the Rain,” “One Spring Night,” and “The Art of Negotiation.”
At just 25, Choo Young Woo has built an impressive résumé in both TV and film. Over the past two years, he has done memorable roles in historical, fantasy romances, and medical series.
In 2024, he earned critical acclaim for his leading role in the historical series “The Tale of Lady Ok,” which won him the Best New Actor award at the 61st Baeksang Arts Awards. Earlier this year, he appeared in two major dramas: the fantasy romance “Head Over Heels” with Cho Yi Hyun and the medical series “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.”
Choo’s big-screen career is also gaining momentum. He is set to appear in the upcoming romantic film “Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight,” a Korean remake of a popular Japanese novel and movie. In it, he plays Kim Jae Won, a young man drifting through life until he meets a girl living with amnesia.
If she joins the project, Kim So Hyun would bring warmth and charm to “Love Expert.” She is a former child actress who has gracefully transitioned into leading roles. Kim is known for her performances in “Love Alarm,” “My Lovely Liar,” “Serendipity’s Embrace,” and more recently, “Good Boy” opposite Park Bo Gum.
As of now, both Choo Young Woo and Kim So Hyun’s agencies have confirmed that they have received the scripts and are positively reviewing the offers. If everything moves forward, filming is expected to begin sometime in late 2025, with more details to follow soon.
