South Korean singer Jessi has found herself at the center of a growing controversy after allegations surfaced that she failed to intervene when a fan was assaulted by members of her entourage.
According to reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of September 29 in an alleyway in Apgujeong, Seoul, when a fan approached Jessi for a photo. Witnesses claim that her associates allegedly attacked the fan.
CCTV footage obtained by JTBC shows Jessi and her group intervening to stop the assault on the victim.
However, despite initial efforts to stop the assault, Jessi and her group subsequently left the scene while the victim reported the incident to authorities.
The informant said, ‘I’m disappointed because it seemed they didn’t take any action and left, possibly to avoid getting involved, even though someone was being hit.’
As per reports, the fan, who was allegedly assaulted by one of Jessi’s associates, is a minor.
After the incident was reported, police located Jessi and her group at a nearby bar. However, the male assailant was not present and her group claimed they did not know the whereabouts of the assailant.
The informant’s mother visited Jessi’s agency on the day of the incident and was told that the male perpetrator was not associated with the “Gum” singer. Instead, they claimed that the attacker was a Chinese acquaintance of a producer close to Jessi.
The police and agency did not provide updates for approximately ten days. On October 10, the victim revisited the police station and was informed that the investigation was ongoing due to the assailant’s unknown identity.
The fan confirmed no direct contact or threats were made to Jessi.
Her agency’s attorney stated that she was not involved in the assault and had met the perpetrator briefly for the first time that day.
Gangnam Police Station is investigating and has summoned the producer, an acquaintance of Jessi, for questioning next week.
