The first day of the 2024 Mnet Asian Music Awards has come to a close, but the buzz is just getting started.
BTS member Jimin made headlines with a historic win at the MAMA Awards 2024 by winning Fans’ Choice of the Year (Daesang).
BTS had won this category for six consecutive years, from 2018 to 2023. However, the “Like Crazy” singer took home the award as a solo artist this year. Moreover, he joined Taeyang, G-Dragon, and Cho Yong Pil as the only soloists to win Daesang (Grand Prize) at MAMA.
However, the celebration was short-lived as fans of ENHYPEN and BTS became embroiled in a heated argument over the legitimacy of Jimin’s win. This win has both fandoms divided, with many fans taking to social media to express their opinions and defend their favorite artists.
The winner for the category was decided based on votes from Mnet (90%), X tags (10%), and live votes.
According to ENHYPEN fans (ENGENEs), the group was leading with the most votes and deserved to win. They believe the group was robbed of the much-deserved award despite leading the vote count.
Since the announcement of the winner, ARMYs and ENGENEs have been saying vile things to each other, even dragging the artists into their clash. ENGENEs are criticizing Jimin while BTS fans are taking a jab at ENHYPEN’s popularity.
On the other hand, the MAMA Awards are facing backlash, with many accusing the show of being rigged. Some fans are also urging others to refrain from escalating the situation into a full-blown fandom war.
