G-Dragon at KAIST

G-Dragon has officially embarked on his K-pop-tech venture. After being appointed as a visiting professor at KAIST, he is now gearing up for a comeback and an AI avatar concert.

On June 5, the 36-year-old rapper made an appearance at the ‘Innovate Korea 2024’ event held at the KAIST Main Sports Complex in Daejeon.

He made a rare public appearance, his first in a while, outside of fashion and beauty brand events. What’s surprising is that he chose to show up at a tech-related talk show focused on AI, rather than an event related to music.

He joined KAIST President Lee Kwang Hyung and Galaxy Corporation CEO Choi Yong Ho at an event hosted by KAIST and NST, discussing the integration of AI and other future technologies with K-pop.

At the event, he was asked when they would be able to see ‘Artist Kwon Jiyong’ instead of ‘Professor Kwon Jiyong’, he jokingly said, “I was going to ask, too. If you create an algorithm, I might be able to find out,” and added, “I’m just kidding, soon.” He then went on to say, “Soon, soon.”

G-Dragon also dished on the technologies he wishes to integrate in his performances, saying, “From a singer’s perspective, the only thing I can do is work hard within the limits that are set. For example, there will be various productions on stage, various effects, and LED lighting behind the scenes.”

He went on to add, “I think the technology was good when I did my last concert,” and added, “but now that technology is improving day by day, there are so many things I want to do. There are a lot of options, so I’m worried about how to make it more interesting so I don’t think I should feel too disconnected, so I’m trying to find a way to combine and integrate them.”

Lastly, he revealed feeling honored to become special professor at KAIST which produces many scientific geniuses.

In other news, he is set to make a comeback and hold concerts in the second half of the year.
