G-Dragon has officially kicked off his hugely-awaited world tour, but the debut shows were met with mixed reviews. Despite his electrifying stage presence, his first shows were plagued by repeated delays, technical issues, and some rough vocal moments.
Since the BIGBANG leader embarked on a world tour after 8 years, the expectations were high and tickets for the Seoul shows were sold out within 16 minutes. Fans were looking forward to seeing him perform “Übermensch”, dropped on February 25. Given that the album was a huge success, fans were expecting his debut shows to make just as much noise.
G-Dragon returned to the stage and met domestic fans with a solo concert for the first time in eight years. However, his two-day ‘G-DRAGON World Tour Übermensch’ at Goyang Stadium on March 29-30 left fans disappointed.
When the big day arrived, the crowd was left waiting – and waiting. Instead of starting at 6:30 PM as planned, the concert was pushed back to 7 PM, and then delayed again by nearly an hour.
On March 30, Galaxy Corporation, G-Dragon’s agency, issued an apology and explanation for the delay. They stated that the concert was postponed twice due to inclement weather, including strong gusts, snow, rain, and freezing temperatures. The agency noted that the weather conditions made it necessary to delay the start of the concert. As a result, fans were left waiting in the cold.
The final show on March 30 started at 7:08 PM, after being delayed due to bad weather. Both days’ performances were affected by the weather conditions. While the agency acknowledged that the delays were unavoidable, fans were still pretty disappointed with the shows.
Notably, G-Dragon only apologized for the delay until halfway through the first shows, and his vocals sounded rough for both days.
Fans took to social media and left comments like
“Not what you expect from a superstar, disappointing performance”
“His voice is already ruined. He can’t perform like he used to.”
“Someone tell him it’s 2025”
“His voice can’t fit rap or vocal”
On the other hand, some fans came to G-Dragon’s defense, pointing out that it was unrealistic to expect him to deliver a flawless, studio-quality performance in freezing 0°C temperatures. Despite the challenging conditions, G-Dragon performed a nearly 3-hour setlist of 20-25 songs, solo.
There were also worrying moments – like when G-Dragon seemed to collapse during a dance break in “TOO BAD”. This raised concerns about his physical condition, especially since he is shouldering a 2-hour solo concert. People are worried whether he can safely complete the rest of the tour.
Meanwhile, G-Dragon’s Asia tour is set to kick off on May 10-11 in Tokyo, Japan, followed by stops in Bulacan, Osaka, Macau, Taiwan, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, and Hong Kong.
