(G)I-DLE’s Original Debut Name was Shockingly Different

(G)I-DLE

It is hard to Imagine a world where (G)I-DLE, the K-pop group we know and love, was called something entirely different. The group’s name was almost not meant to be.

On July 12, (G)I-DLE member Yuqi appeared on Daesung’s YouTube show as a special guest. The 26-year-old dished some “interesting” tea on the show, from weight loss journey to possible group debut names in consideration.

Yuqi revealed that the names suggested for the group by Cube Entertainment were AnyColor, Black Cube, High Five, Purple Rose, Black Red, and Black Kiss.

The Could It Be singer revealed that they almost agreed on calling the group AnyColor back then. She revealed that they were finally told to debut as Black Kiss, however, Miyeon was strongly against it and couldn’t sleep because of it.

Yuqi also spilled the beans on the stage names that were considered for each (G)I-DLE member. Blue Sky for Yuqi, White Butterfly for Shuhua, Pink Mouse for Minnie, Green Alligator or Green Tuna for Miyeon, and Yellow Fish for Soyeon.

On another note, Yuqi shared a disturbing insight into the extreme weight loss pressures imposed on trainees by Cube Entertainment.

She recalled how the agency would publicly shame trainees by posting a list of those who weighed too much, prompting her to drastically starve herself to lose 5kg in just 3 days to avoid being on the list. She confessed that she would go to great lengths to avoid being named on the list, including eating nothing at all.

On the work front, (G)I-DLE recently released the 7th mini album I SWAY on July 8, featuring 4 tracks including Klaxon, Last Forever, Neverland, and Bloom.
