Hyeri, the star of the GL drama “Friendly Rivalry,” is making waves with her candid comments about a same-sex kissing scene with co-star Chung Su Bin.
In a recent interview, the former Girl’s Day member shared her thoughts on the intimate moment with Chung. She revealed that she felt surprisingly comfortable and at ease with the kiss.
On March 27, Hyeri guested on the YouTube show “Una Beck’s Give and Take” and talked candidly about her recently concluded drama “Friendly Rivalry”.
During the interview, the host and Hyeri talked about the steamy bathtub scene where the lead actresses shared a kiss.
The 30-year-old actress expressed, “I really wanted it to be portrayed beautifully. I wanted those scenes to be shot with care, especially the kiss scene. When moments like that are made overly provocative or reduced to just that, they can easily turn into something that’s used rather than truly felt. That’s why it was such an important scene for all of us. The director, Su Bin, and I were all on the same page, let’s make it beautiful.”
Regarding her first on-screen same-sex kissing scene with Chung Su Bin, Hyeri shared it was not surprisingly different, “I was like, ‘Honestly… it is another scene to shoot. I did not really feel like it was something that needed a big emotional buildup or mental preparation. The only thing on my mind was to just make it beautiful.”
She added, “It wasn’t that different. Honestly, I also wondered, ‘Could it feel different?’ But actually, I felt even more at ease. It was more comfortable. I was surprised, too. It wasn’t any different.”
She also revealed the reason for choosing this character Yoo Jay, saying, “The character Jay is someone who, if not handled carefully, could quickly come off as predictable or confusing enough to feel frustrating, maybe even seem unlikable. So, in a way, she was honestly a bit of a burden. But I think inevitably, Jay was just too compelling to resist.”
Meanwhile, “Friendly Rivalry”, which concluded on March 6, revolves around Woo Seulgi (Chung Su Bin), a talented but troubled teen from an orphanage, who transfers to the prestigious Chaehwa High School in Seoul. Despite her rough exterior, she is drawn to the charismatic and cunning Yoo Jay (Hyeri), the school’s most powerful student.
