MBC has confirmed the premiere date for its new drama Perfect Crown, starring IU and Byeon Woo Seok. Their fans have to wait a bit longer as the drama’s premiere is pushed due to the WBC 2026.

As reported by OSEN on March 6, the new Friday-Saturday drama is scheduled to premiere on April 10 and will consist of 12 episodes. It will air as the follow-up to the currently broadcasting drama “In Your Radiant Season“.

‘Perfect Crown’ Release Date Adjusted Due to Baseball Classic

The production team initially considered an early April premiere. The premiere date was slightly adjusted due to scheduling changes. The drama In Your Radiant Season was originally expected to finish earlier, but its broadcast was affected by the Korea–Japan match of the 2026 World Baseball Classic on March 7.

Because of this sports broadcast, the Friday–Saturday drama schedule was disrupted, and one episode was canceled. As a result, the finale of In Your Radiant Season was pushed back by a week, which naturally moved the first broadcast of Perfect Crown to April 10.

Plot Overview

Perfect Crown is set in a 21st-century constitutional monarchy in the Republic of Korea. It tells the story of a woman who has everything but her “commoner” status and a man who is the son of a king but possesses nothing.

IU plays the role of Sung Hee Joo, the second daughter of the country’s most powerful conglomerate family. She has wealth, beauty, intelligence, and a strong competitive spirit. Byeon Woo Seok takes on the role of Prince Ian, the second son of the king in the constitutional monarchy. Although he holds a royal title, he has lived his life suppressing his true self because of his position.

The supporting cast includes Noh Sang Hyun as Min Jung Woo, a member of a powerful political family and a close friend of Prince Ian. Gong Seung Yeon plays Yoon Yi Rang, a woman from a family that has produced four queens and who is expected to become queen herself.

The drama is directed by Park Joon Hwa, known for hit series such as What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim and Alchemy of Souls, alongside co-director Bae Hee Young. The script is written by Yoo Ji Won, MBC writing contest winner.

Expectations are High for Perfect Crown

Expectations are particularly high for the two lead actors. IU selected this project as her next drama following her role in When Life Gives You Tangerines, also starring Park Bo Gum. Byeon takes on the role after the massive success of Lovely Runner (Run Away with Sun Jae).

To promote the series ahead of its premiere, he will appear on IU’s popular YouTube music talk show IU’s Palette along with fellow cast members Yoo Soo Bin and Lee Yeon. The episode will mark the first guest appearance on the show in 2026 and will feature stories from the filming process.

Among MBC’s Friday–Saturday dramas, the highest viewership so far belongs to Knight Flower starring Lee Ha Nee with 18.4 percent. The Red Sleeve, starring Lee Junho, holds second place with 17.4 percent, followed by Big Mouth starring Lee Jong Suk with 13.7 percent.

Fans are now wondering whether Perfect Crown can surpass these records and finally break the 20 percent ratings. MBC has yet to achieve this with its Friday–Saturday lineup.

Perfect Crown will premiere on April 10 on MBC and will air every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 p.m. KST.
