Director Yeon Sang Ho, known worldwide for Train to Busan and Peninsula, is back with a new film that is terrifying to a new level. The movie, titled Colony, has confirmed a 2026 release, and the first 30-second teaser was released today, January 6. The short teaser gave fans a glimpse of the suspense and chaos to come.
The story of Colony is set in a sealed building where a rapidly mutating virus traps a group of survivors. The virus doesn’t just create ordinary zombies; it evolves, becoming more unpredictable and dangerous. In the teaser, Jun Ji Hyun, playing bioengineer Kwon Se Jeong, warns, “They started out walking on four legs, then two. They seem to be evolving.”
Jun Ji Hyun returns to the big screen for the first time in 11 years since Assassination. In addition, Ji Chang Wook takes on the role of Choi Hyun Seok, a building security guard who throws himself into protecting the survivors.
Shin Hyun Bin and Kim Shin Rok play Gong Seol-hee and Choi Hyun Hee, facing the chaos together. Koo Kyo Hwan, who previously worked with Yeon in Peninsula, appears as Seo Young Cheol, a mysterious character who seems oddly calm, saying, “It’s about taking humanity to the next level.”
Go Soo also joins the ensemble as Han Gyu Sung, who completes the group of trapped survivors.
Colony is produced by Wowpoint and Smilegate, in association with Midnight Studio, with Showbox handling international sales. The project was first showcased at the Cannes Film Market in 2025, and production is currently underway.
By focusing on a sealed building and introducing an evolving virus, Yeon Sang Ho shifts from the fast-paced train setting of his previous films to a claustrophobic, psychological thriller.
While the exact release timeline is not revealed, Colony is set for a major theatrical release in May.
