K-pop beauty standards are incredibly demanding and often realistic. That’s why idols go to extreme lengths to fit those beauty standards.
Behind the glamorous world of K-pop, a shocking truth exists. Many idols feel forced to undergo plastic surgery to meet the industry’s unrealistic beauty standards.
Daisy, a former member of MOMOLAND, revealed three shocking K-pop secrets in her latest TikTok video. The 26-year-old former K-pop star departed the group in 2020 and is currently enrolled in a university. She is quite active on TikTok with 1.3 million followers and regularly shares dance covers and makeup videos. Daisy also talks about her idol life and dishes out some dark secrets from the K-pop world.
In latest video, Daisy shockingly revealed, “Another weird thing K-pop lies about is the reason for hiatus and injuries. I’d hope that most of the time they are not lying and they are literally just telling the truth. But in some cases, they do lie about the reason.”
“In my hiatus meetings, they told me that the article that’s going out is gonna say that you are on hiatus because of health issues, and that literally sent me over the edge. I told them that if they put an article out like that, I am gonna tell the whole world that it is a big, fat lie. As a result, my article just said that it was for a personal reason”, the former K-pop star added.
According to Daisy, not all K-pop hiatuses are what they seem – some idols are actually taking time off to get cosmetic procedures done.
K-Pop beauty standards are incredibly strict, emphasizing pale, flawless skin, large eyes, a high nose bridge, a defined jawline, and a slender figure. Idols often undergo extensive procedures and adhere to rigorous routines to meet these unrealistic expectations.
Minor K-pop artists often opt for plastic surgery as a way to enhance their appearance before entering the spotlight. K-pop idols drastically cut calories, sometimes going without meals, to rapidly lose weight and achieve an enviable figure.
The former MOMOLAND memeber also revealed a surprising truth about signed albums. She says that it’s common for staff members to sign albums in bulk for idols, instead of the idols signing them themselves. This is because it would take too much time for the idols to sign all the albums. This means that some fans might be buying albums signed by staff members, not the idols.
The third thing Daisy exposed was that AR live performances on music shows are often pre-recorded in a studio. To create the illusion of a live show, idols will even jump around to simulate heavy breathing.
