K-pop fans are bidding a temporary farewell to one of their favorite idols, Kim Woojin!

The talented singer and former member of the group Stray Kids officially began his mandatory military service today.

Kim Woojin will kick off his military journey by reporting to the new recruit training unit. He will undergo basic training before joining the army band to serve out the remainder of his mandatory service.

His enlistment will be a low-key affair, with no special events or ceremonies planned for the day he reports for duty.

The 27-year-old singer is pursuing solo activities after parting ways with Stray Kids in 2019. Last year, he made a fresh start by signing with a new agency Kustomade.

He dropped his third mini-album, “I LIKE THE WAY,” under Kustomade, a producing label of Creation Music Rights (KMR). Kim Woojin released the single “5AM” just days before his enlistment. He poured his heart out to express his affection and gratitude to those who have supported him along the way.

In Korea, military service is mandatory for able-bodied men, typically lasting around 18-21 months. Since he has enlisted as an active-duty soldier, Kim Woojin will return to civilian life after 1.5 years.
