Lee Do Hyun was discharged from military service today after serving 21 months in the Air Force military band. The beloved star, known for his versatile acting in hit dramas like “The Glory” and “Sweet Home”, will officially return to the entertainment industry.
Lee Do Hyun began his military service with basic training on August 14, 2023, and served in the ROKAF’s (Republic of Korea Air Force) military band. He contributed as a vocalist and performer of the Air Force military band. Unlike many actors who served as active-duty soldiers, his role allowed him to participate in military concerts and public events.
In October last year, he made headlines for his participation in the Air Force military band’s busking performance in Brussels, Belgium.
Before his military enlistment, Lee had already achieved global stardom with his breakout roles in the Netflix series “The Glory” and “Sweet Home”.
Even during his military service, he remained connected with the audience through multiple releases. The 30-year-old star filmed ample projects for viewers and fans to enjoy while he fulfilled national defense duties.
He appeared in several hit dramas, “Death’s Game,” “Sweet Home 3”, and the blockbuster movie “Exhuma”. The film was a huge hit in Korea and attracted over 11 million moviegoers.
Last year, the Kdrama heartthrob received two major awards for his performance in “Exhuma” at the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards and Blue Dragon Awards.
In a delightful surprise, Lee Do Hyun attended the 60th Baeksang Awards to receive the Best New Actor (Film) award, clad in a military uniform. He gave a shout out to his girlfriend, Lim Ji Yeon, during his award acceptance speech, and the moment went quite viral at the time.
Even while he was serving, the “18 Again” actor received a casting offer for the acclaimed writer Hong Sisters’ upcoming drama. If Lee Do Hyun accepts the offer, he will work with Go Min Si for the third time, after collaborating with her on “Youth of May” and “Sweet Home”.
