Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin’s highly anticipated drama “When The Stars Gossip” has finally seen a long-awaited boost in ratings.
After experiencing a decline in viewership in recent episodes, the tvN weekend drama has bounced back with a significant surge in ratings for its sixth episode.
tvN’s “When The Stars Gossip” episode 6, which aired on January 19, recorded a viewership rating of 2.905% nationwide. This marks a notable increase for the drama, according to Nielsen Korea’s ratings.
The show’s previous episode had garnered a 1.8% viewership rating, but episode 6 saw a notable uptick of 1.1%. While the increase is a positive sign, the tvN’s Saturday-Sunday drama still has its work cut out in terms of ratings.
The viewership ratings for “When The Stars Gossip” have declined steadily since its second week of broadcasting. After debuting with a 3.3% rating, the drama peaked at 3.9% in its second episode but then dropped to 2.2% in episode three.
The ratings continued to slide, falling from the 2% range to the 1% range. Since its January 4 premiere, the show has consistently recorded lower viewership ratings each week.
KBS 2TV’s “The Iron Family” dominated the weekend drama ratings with a 19.0% share, followed by JTBC’s “The Tale of Lady Ok” with 9.7% and Channel A’s “Check-in Hanyang” with 2.994%.
Notably, “When The Stars Gossip” has dropped to the bottom of the weekend drama rankings, surpassed by “Check-in Hanyang”.
The drama received significant attention before its broadcast due to the return of Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin to television. However, the show’s viewership did not meet expectations.
The sci-fi romance’s space setting was a unique aspect, but the focus on the main character’s mission detracted from the overall storyline. The relationship between the lead characters also developed slowly, only gaining traction by the fourth episode. By the fifth episode, the show’s viewership rating had dropped to 1.8%.
The low viewership ratings of “When The Stars Gossip” were unexpected, given its star-studded cast, including Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin, and writer Seo Sook Hyang. Ratings had been declining, but episode 6 saw a turnaround. Noting can be said about the rating trends of episodes 7 & 8, airing next weekend.
