MBC has released a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the first script reading for its upcoming fantasy rom-com, A Good Day to Be a Dog. The cast — including Cha Eunwoo, Park Gyu Young, and Lee Hyun Woo — gathered with the writer, director, and production team. They brought the story’s quirky characters to life.
During the reading, the atmosphere was warm and lively. The actors read through their lines together, joked around, and discussed key moments in the script.
Toward the end, Cha Eunwoo said they all got along very well, noting: “our chemistry was so great.” He added that viewers will enjoy watching the drama with a smile, thanks to how naturally the cast plays off each other.
Park Gyu Young, who plays Han Hae Na, shared her take on the show’s romantic premise. Park found the idea of a woman who turns into a dog when she kisses someone to be uniquely charming. Lee Hyun Woo, another key teacher character, pointed out that fans familiar with the original webtoon will enjoy comparing the webtoon and drama versions.
A Good Day to Be a Dog is based on a Naver webtoon that follows Han Hae Na, a teacher who transforms into a dog whenever she kisses someone. The curse can only be broken if she kisses the same person again while in her dog form. However, the catch is, the man who can help her break it, Jin Seo Won (played by Cha Eunwoo), has a deep-seated fear of dogs due to a childhood trauma.
MBC confirmed that the show will air starting in October, with episodes scheduled every Wednesday. According to sources, the first two episodes are set to drop together on October 11, 2023, at 9:00 PM KST.
At the reading, the actors talked candidly about their roles. Cha Eunwoo mentioned that he feels about “70 percent” in sync with his character. He is cautious and seems cold at first but hides deeper emotions. Park Gyu Young praised her chemistry with both co-stars and said the set was full of laughter and genuine connection.
Director Kim Dae Woong (who directed A Good Day to Be a Dog) has said he wanted to ground the fantasy elements in a realistic, gentle way.
