Minji, the member of the popular K-pop group NewJeans, threw the ceremonial first pitch for the Doosan Bears, a Korean professional baseball team, today, October 2, 2024.
On October 2, the 20-year-old K-pop singer arrived at the Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul to throw her first-ever ceremonial pitch for Doosan Bear. The team Doosan Bear played against team Kt Wiz today.
What grabbed all the attention was the NewJeans member kicking off the match between the two baseball giants.
This isn’t surprising, given Minji’s interest in baseball – she’s actually a fan of the Doosan Bears.
She has already shown her athletic side, and this appearance sure excited fans of both NewJeans and the Doosan Bears.
Ahead of the baseball match, Minji shared her thoughts saying, “I am truly happy to be the one throwing the first pitch for Doosan, a team I have been cheering for since I was young.”
She added, “Since I have the honor of pitching in the postseason, I will do my best to bring energy so that Doosan can win.”
This isn’t the first time a K-pop idol has thrown a ceremonial first pitch for the team. aespa’s Winter, Karina, Cha Eunwoo, SHINee’s Minho, TXT’s Yeonjun, SEVENTEEN’s DK, and more have thrown first pitches in the past few months.
On another note, NewJeans held an emergency live broadcast on September 11 to publicly address their grievances and demand the reinstatement of the former ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin.
Despite the internal conflict, NewJeans has continued to thrive, releasing their successful double single How Sweet followed by Japanese debut single Supernatural in May.
