Kim’s casting was first reported by Edaily on July 30, though the production has not yet officially confirmed the casting or other details. On August 14, My Daily exclusively reported that Park Bo Gum will join the veteran actor in the film.

According to the coverage, Kim Nam Gil is set to portray Grand Prince Suyang, a notable figure in Joseon Dynasty history, known for his political ambitions and eventual rise to power. Park Bo Gum is rumored to take on the role of Prince Anpyeong, the historical figure who inspired the iconic 15th-century landscape painting Dream Journey to the Peach Blossom Land, created by Joseon painter An Gyeon.

The story reportedly centers on the Gyeyu Jeongnan incident, a key historical event in which Prince Suyang seized control by eliminating numerous high-ranking ministers and aides loyal to King Danjong. The painting itself is said to be a focal point of the narrative, which symbolizes the tension between the two princes and reflects the broader conflicts of the period.

Director Jang Hoon, known for acclaimed films such as A Taxi Driver, The Brothers, and The Front Line, is rumored to helm the project, marking his first major historical drama in several years.

Director Jang Hoon, known for films like A Taxi Driver, The Brothers, and Rough Cut, is approached to direct the project. Production is said to be handled by Dudung Films, though no official announcements have been made yet.

Kim Nam Gil is well-known for his work in historical dramas, including his critically praised performance as Bidam in Queen Seon Deok, as well as roles in Live Up to Your Name and the film The Pirates. He recently appeared in the action thriller Netflix drama, Trigger, with a star-studded cast, which aired last month.

Park Bo Gum, meanwhile, has been active across both small and large screens this year. He received praise for his roles in Netflix’s When Life Gives You Tangerines, KBS 2TV’s The Seasons – Park Bo Gum’s Cantabile, and JTBC’s Good Boy.

He will star in a historical movie after 11 years since he was cast in a supporting role for The Admiral: Roaring Currents, released in 2014.

While details remain unconfirmed, the pairing has already sparked strong interest in what could be a major historical project.
