Park Bo Gum ended his five-year hiatus from Korean dramas with Netflix’s ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines’. The Kdrama heartthrob is finally making another acting comeback—and it might be his most exciting role yet.
The actor is trading in his clean-cut image for something far more physical in “Good Boy”, an upcoming JTBC series that blends sports, comedy, and police action into one unique package.
Fresh off his heartwarming performance in “When Life Gives You Tangerines,” the 31-year-old will ditch gentle romance for hard-hitting action. Joining him is an ensemble cast including Kim So Hyun, Oh Jung Se, Lee Sang Yi, Heo Sung Tae, and Tae Won Suk.
“Good Boy” Release Date & Where to Watch
“Good Boy” is set to premiere on May 31, 2025, on JTBC and conclude on July 20, 2025. The 16-episode drama will air every Friday and Saturday at 10:40 pm KST. Global streaming will be available on Amazon Prime Video for viewers shortly after the broadcast.
Plot
JTBC’s upcoming weekend offering, “Good Boy,” is a comical action youth investigative drama, and an exciting collaboration between director Shim Na Yeon (“The Good Bad Mother”, “Beyond Evil) and Lee Dae Il (“Chief of Staff”, “Life on Mars”).
The drama follows Olympic medalists who join the police force through special recruitment. These elite athletes trade their medals for police badges, applying their world-class skills to crime-fighting.
“Good Boy” stands out for its never-before-seen concept of merging sports with police work.
Cast and Characters
Park Bo Gum
Park Bo Gum plays Yoon Dong Ju, a hot-tempered former boxer who joins the force through special recruitment after his sports career ends abruptly.
This new role is poles apart from his portrayal of loving and gentle Gwan Sik in “When Life Gives You Tangerines”, which premiered in March on Netflix. It appears Park is exploring genres beyond romance with his upcoming projects, which include a historical action film.
His notable acting credits include “Wonderland”, “Record of Youth”, “Reply 1988”, “Love in the Moonlight”, and more.
Kim So Hyun
Kim So Hyun plays Ji Han Na, an Olympic shooting champion turned detective. A prodigy who retired after a scandal, Han-na is cold on the outside but hides a passionate heart. Her sharpshooting skills translate into precise police work.
Kim So Hyun appeared in two, back-to-back popular romance Kdramas, including “My Lovely Liar” and “Serendipity’s Embrace”. The 25-year-old actress is famous for her roles in “Love Alarm”, “The Tale of Nokdu”, and “River Where the Moon Rises”.
Oh Jung Se
Oh Jung Se as Min Joo Young, a customs officer by day, a secret villain by night. Praised for his diligence, Joo Young hides a dark alter ego that terrorizes Inseong City. Oh Jung Se’s dual performance promises a gripping antagonist.
Oh is known for his standout performances in “When The Stars Gossip”, “Cobweb”, “Seoul Vibe”, “Little Women”, “Queen of Tears”, and more.
Lee Sang Yi
Lee Sang Yi portrays Kim Jong Hyun, an Olympic fencer (silver medalist) turned detective. He joins the force to reunite with his ex-girlfriend Han Na. He uses his fencing skills with a three-section baton in fights.
Lee Sang Yi gained fame for his appearances in Kdramas including “Bloodhounds”, “My Demon”, “No Gain No Love”, “Love in the Big City”, and more.
Heo Sung Tae
Heo Sung Tae stars as Ko Man Sik, a wrestling bronze medalist and team leader. He prefers intellectual strategies over brute force and balances the team’s hotheadedness.
His acting credits include “The Swindlers”, “Big Bet”, “The Outlaws”, “Squid Game”, and more.
Tae Won Suk
Tae Won Suk as Shin Jae Hong, a discus throw bronze medalist and gentle giant, who joins the police to support his family.
Tae Won Suk proved his acting skills in Kdramas like “Bloodhounds”, “Private Lives”, “The Tale of Lady Ok”, and more.
