Park Min Young and Yook Sungjae are in talks to star together in a new SBS melodrama tentatively titled “Nine to Six.” The casting was reported on January 6 and, if confirmed, marks the first time the two actors will work together in a drama.
“Nine to Six” tells the story of a woman who has long put love aside because of her career and the gentle man who slowly changes her life. The drama focuses on everyday people who pass through each other’s lives and become one another’s past and future. The series is based on the Chinese drama “The Rational Life,” which aired in 2021.
Park Min Young plays Kang Yi Ji, the head of the legal team at an automobile company. She is a complete workaholic who has never placed much importance on dating or marriage. She does not reject love outright, but she believes romance and marriage are driven by biology rather than emotion. She is calm, rational, and practical, and does not react emotionally.
Yook Sungjae plays Han Sun Woo, a warm and sensitive jewelry designer who also holds a law degree. He is skilled with his hands and is good at many things, including cooking and design. He has an easygoing personality and a level of emotional maturity that feels older than his age.
He is described as the kind of man many people today would want to date. Sun Woo is someone whose heart often moves faster than his thoughts, especially when it comes to Kang Yi Ji.
This project is grabbing attention because it is Park Min-young’s first time acting opposite Yook Sungjae. Park Min Young has previously shown strong chemistry with younger male co-stars in dramas like “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim” with Park Seo Joon, “When the Weather Is Fine” with Seo Kang Joon, and “Forecasting Love and Weather” with Song Kang.
She most recently received praise for her lead role in the 2024 hit drama “Marry My Husband” and also appeared in “Confidence Queen.”
Yook Sung-jae is known both as an actor and as the main vocalist of BTOB. His past acting works include “Who Are You: School 2015,” “Goblin,” and “The Golden Spoon.” He has also appeared in “The Haunted Palace,” which won multiple awards at the SBS Drama Awards.
“Nine to Six” is produced by Samhwa Pictures and directed by Lee Hyung Min, who previously helmed popular dramas such as “Strong Girl Bong Soon,” “Miracle That We Met,” and “Miss Night and Day.” The drama is scheduled to air on SBS; no details about filming and broadcast have been announced.
