Red Velvet’s Joy has publicly spoken out against her label, SM Entertainment, over the delayed release of the group’s music video, Cosmic.
The group made their comeback with the album, Cosmic, on June 24, but the MV of the title single was released later than scheduled after some changes were made.
Joy publicly called out SM Entertainment for not considering their opinion when editing the MV. When a fan asked her to react to the music video on Weverse, she expressed her dissatisfaction, saying, “Well, they did not listen to our opinion at all, and just told us to wait, and we watched the music video without edits.”
She went on to say, “I don’t think I can say more than this,” and added, “So I have to keep quiet.”
Even before the album’s release, Joy had been dropping hints about her strained relationship with SM Entertainment. She openly vented her frustrations about the label’s lack of promotion for Red Velvet’s latest album.
The 26-year-old idol shared, “I wonder how long it will be a secret, or if they forgot to announce it, or if they are planning to release it next week.”
In addition, Yeri also expressed disappointment regarding the delayed release of the music video.
While SM Entertainment has successfully renewed contracts with Seulgi in August 2023 and Irene earlier this year, the fate of Red Velvet’s future remains uncertain as Joy, Wendy, and Yeri have yet to renew their contracts.
In this situation, Joy’s public outburst against the agency has further hinted that she might be parting ways.
Lastly, Red Velvet released Cosmic to celebrate their 10th anniversary and will also be embarking on an Asia fanmeeting tour to meet fans.
