K-pop star Joy, a member of the girl group Red Velvet, is reportedly in talks about the lead role in upcoming webtoon-based series The Year We Turned 29.
According to industry sources, Joy is positively reviewing an offer to play the lead role in the drama, which tells the story of three friends navigating the challenges of adulthood.
If confirmed, she’ll be returning to the small screen after 2 years. The 27-year-old singer last appeared in Once Upon a Small Town in 2022.
Back in April 2022, there were reports that actress Kim Hye-yoon was being eyed for the main role in The Year We Turned 29.
She recently rose to fame both domestically and internationally with her role in tvN’s Lovely Runner, and she is currently contemplating joining the cast of this new webtoon-based drama.
As they approach their 30th birthday, three close friends with the same name – Bong Woo Ri, Cha Woo Ri, and Kim Woo Ri – are faced with the harsh realities of growing up.
However, what makes their journey truly special is the unshakeable bond they share, brought together by fate and their shared name. Through thick and thin, they’ve got each other’s backs, navigating ups and downs side by side.
As stated earlier, it follows the story of three friends in their late 20s, Bong Woo Ri, the artistic type who’s finally getting around to applying to art school and working as a part-time designer.
Cha Woo Ri (potentially played by Joy), the no-nonsense flight attendant who’s all about tough love. Kim Woo Ri, a dedicated student grinding for the civil service exam. They may seem like an unlikely crew, but they’re about to take on adulthood together.
Lastly, originally planned for production as a drama in the latter part of 2020, the project was delayed, and there are talks that preparations for production are now underway once more.
Lastly, fans are eagerly waiting to see if the collaboration between Joy and Kim Hye Yoon will indeed materialize.
