K-pop group SEVENTEEN faced an unexpected accident during the opening of their world tour in Incheon when special effect fireworks malfunctioned and fell toward the audience. The incident took place on September 13 at the SEVENTEEN WORLD TOUR [NEW_] IN INCHEON concert held at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium.
Firework Incident During SEVENTEEN Concert
During the final section of the performance, fireworks that were meant to add excitement to the stage suddenly dropped into the audience area. Fans on-site expressed shock, and two concertgoers were confirmed to have been injured. Staff provided immediate medical attention at a temporary clinic inside the venue, after which both returned home safely.
Pledis Entertainment, SEVENTEEN’s agency, issued an apology the following day through Weverse.
Cause of the Accident
PLEDIS clarified that the stage production had been prepared by a professional company and underwent repeated safety checks before the show. Despite these precautions, the fireworks malfunctioned due to defective products.
The statement continued:
Although the staging was planned with safety distances and directions set by a professional vendor and underwent repeated checks before the performance, it appears this incident occurred due to a defect in some of the products.
Apology and Immediate Action
Acknowledging the shock caused to SEVENTEEN fans, the agency offered a direct apology.
We extend our deepest apologies to all audience members who were surprised or experienced discomfort due to this sudden situation.
They also addressed the injuries sustained:
Two spectators who were confirmed to have been injured at the venue received immediate treatment at the on-site temporary medical station and have since returned home. We will actively support subsequent medical procedures to ensure the swift recovery of those affected.
Additionally, Pledis announced plans to contact all attendees from the September 13 show to confirm whether further damages occurred.
For further confirmation of any additional injuries and to clarify the situation, we will be sending separate notification messages to attendees of that day’s performance.
Looking ahead, Pledis emphasized that stronger safety measures will be implemented for SEVENTEEN’s upcoming concerts. For the September 14 show, the agency confirmed that the defective fireworks products would be removed from production, and all special effects would only proceed after undergoing a more thorough safety inspection.
SEVENTEEN is performing back-to-back concerts at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium on September 13 and 14 before heading to Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Stadium on September 27 and 28.
