SEVENTEEN is teaming up with The Smurfs for a collaboration that no one saw coming.

Their agency, PLEDIS Entertainment, confirmed on Tuesday that the group will release a special Smurf-themed version of their hit song “God of Music.” This will be in partnership with Peyo Company, the rights holder of the beloved blue characters. The collaboration will roll out globally starting next month, along with a new music video and exclusive merchandise.

The project connects two iconic worlds — SEVENTEEN’s bright, high-energy music and The Smurfs’ classic, feel-good universe. The idea for the collaboration came from a special coincidence: both “God of Music” and The Smurfs share the same important date, October 23. It marks the Smurfs’ official birthday and the release date of SEVENTEEN’s “God of Music.”

According to PLEDIS, that connection is grounded in shared values of “teamwork, friendship, inclusion, joy, and cooperation.”

The first teaser for the project dropped on The Smurfs’ official YouTube channel on October 23. It showed the silhouettes of 13 new Smurf characters with the “God of Music” melody playing in the background.

Each of these new Smurfs represents a member of SEVENTEEN. The members are designed with a mix of the group’s unique personalities and the classic Smurf look — blue skin, short height, and that magical charm. The teaser has fans guessing which Smurf might represent their favorite member.

The upcoming music video will blend SEVENTEEN’s performance style with the animated world of The Smurfs. In a statement, the agency said the video was planned “based on the fact that The Smurfs’ birthday and the release date of ‘God of Music’ are the same, and that both express the value of coexistence.”

In addition, SEVENTEEN and The Smurfs will also launch a range of character-based merchandise featuring the member-inspired Smurfs. Each piece combines SEVENTEEN’s identity with the charm of Peyo’s world. This is not SEVENTEEN’s first time working with global character brands. In Japan, they previously collaborated with Sanrio and BE@RBRICK on a themed collection. In China, they partnered with the plush doll brand TeddyTales for a limited-edition “BongBong Bear.” It was inspired by SEVENTEEN’s own light stick character, BongBong-ie.

The Smurfs were first introduced in 1958 by Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford, better known by his pen name “Peyo.” The tiny blue characters started in comic books and later became global favorites through animated shows, movies, and merchandise.

The Smurf version of “God of Music” is set to arrive in November.

In other news, SEVENTEEN will perform in Washington on October 29-30 as part of their world tour, New_.
