While some international media outlets gave mixed reviews to the second season, Squid Game 2 is off to a phenomenal start and smashing records.
Netflix’s original series “Squid Game” season 2 achieved unprecedented success, topping the charts in 92 countries worldwide despite receiving mixed reviews.
According to FlixPatrol, a reputable OTT ranking site, the show claimed the number one spot globally in the Netflix TV show category just a day after its release on December 26.
Netflix’s “Squid Game” season 2 achieved a remarkable feat, reaching number one in 92 out of 93 countries where Netflix is officially available. The only exception was New Zealand, where the show ranked second, surpassed only by “La Palma”.
Although the show ranked second in New Zealand, its overall global performance was unmatched. According to FlixPatrol, the show earned a total score of 929 points, significantly surpassing “La Palma” (775 points).
The second Season kicks off with a thrilling showdown between Ki Hoon (Lee Jung Jae), seeking revenge, and the ruthless Frontman (Lee Byung Hun). This comes after the massive success of Season 1, which has reached 2.2 billion viewing hours, a record-breaking milestone for Netflix. The latest installment promises to deliver even more suspense and drama.
International critics have expressed disappointment with “Squid Game 2”, saying it lacks the originality, fun, and creativity that made the first season a hit.
Despite disappointing reviews, it is off to a strong start, ranking first in 92 countries. Now, all eyes are on whether it can top Season 1’s performance. The show has also received a Golden Globe nomination for Best TV Drama, a notable achievement considering the judges reviewed it before its release.
“Squid Game” Season 3 is set to drop in the first half of next year. Director Hwang Dong Hyuk is teasing an even darker and more brutal storyline, with events unfolding 10-20 years after Season 2.
