The 23-year-old K-pop idol has since issued a heartfelt apology for his thoughtless comment.

In an official statement, Felix shared, “Firstly, I would like to apologize to everyone, including my fans, who may have been disappointed by my careless behavior. Earlier this morning, I was discussing the Short-form Challenge with fans through our personal communication community and mentioned a Japanese song.”

He apologized to fans saying, “I sincerely apologize for being inconsiderate and careless on this meaningful liberation day. I am deeply reflecting on my lack of historical awareness. I will study, think, and act more in the areas where I have been lacking, and I will be careful not to repeat this.”

This morning, Felix faced backlash for announcing a Japanese anime song challenge on Korea’s Liberation Day, a national holiday that commemorates the country’s independence from Japan in 1945.

Felix has since apologized for his mistake, acknowledging the significance of the day.

August 15th marks the 79th anniversary of Liberation Day, a celebration of Korea’s freedom and the establishment of the Republic of Korea government.

On the work front, Stray Kids is set to kick off their world tour dominATE in Seoul this month following a successful comeback.
