The highly anticipated film Wonderland, starring K-drama heartthrobs Suzy and Park Bo Gum, has failed to draw in the crowds as previously speculated.

Despite the hype and bankable leads, the movie has fallen short of expectations and is struggling to reach a milestone of 1 million viewers at the box office.

The movie’s failure to attract film enthusiasts has raised questions, with some pointing to the rise of streaming platforms as a possible reason.

Wonderland attracted a lot of attention with its star-studded cast, featuring Tang Wei, Park Bo Gum, Suzy, Choi Wooshik, Jung Yumi, and a special appearance by Gong Yoo.

The movie’s star power couldn’t save it from flopping at the box office, a problem many Korean films are facing this summer. Few movies like Exhuma and The Roundup: Punishment have managed to turn a profit.

Movie buffs are reluctant to go to the cinema as the cost of a single movie ticket, 30,000 won, can buy them a month of unlimited Netflix access.

The rise of online streaming services like Netflix has led to a dismal summer for movie theaters, with many theaters closing their doors as the industry struggles to compete.

As movie theaters struggle with declining attendance, streaming apps have seen a remarkable surge in popularity, with over 30 million downloads in the domestic market alone.

OTT platforms have emerged as a preferred choice for entertainment, gaining millions of new users annually, while movie theaters struggle to keep up.
