Taeyeon will continue her long, and at times, challenging partnership with SM Entertainment, renewing a partnership that has lasted 19 years. Since debuting as a member of the iconic girl group in 2007, the Girls’ Generation member has become one of K-pop’s most beloved vocalists.
Her solo career, which began in 2015, has also been highly successful, and this contract renewal shows the strong trust between her and SM.
Taeyeon has given fans countless hits over the years, including “I,” “Why,” “Four Seasons,” “Spark,” “INVU,” and “To. X.” Last year, the 36-year-old idol celebrated ten years as a solo artist with the release of her first compilation album, “Panorama: The Best of TAEYEON.”
The release features 24 songs ,including the new lead single “Panorama” and a collection of her most memorable tracks. She also held a special exhibition in Seoul called “Time Lapse, Timeless” from November 26 to December 3, 2025.
The exhibition gave fans a closer look at her decade-long solo journey with exclusive photos, videos, and interactive content.
On January 9, SM Entertainment shared their excitement about continuing to work with their longtime artist Taeyeon. The label said,
We are happy to work once again with our valued artist Taeyeon, based on the trust and bond we have built over a long time. We will continue to support Taeyeon in every way so that she can shine even more as a global artist.
Her long-standing relationship with SM was not without challenges. Taeyeon publicly expressed frustration over two major incidents related to concert management last year In April, SM canceled her two solo concerts at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena just two days before the shows due to delayed equipment from Indonesia.
Taeyeon apologized to fans but also criticized the agency’s operational mistakes. She later supported her global fan union’s formal request for accountability and compensation. Earlier, in January, she withdrew from the SMTOWN Live 2025 concert marking SM’s 30th anniversary.
While SM initially cited personal reasons, the idol clarified that the withdrawal was from the lack of support and communication from the company.
Looking back, Taeyeon’s career has been full of milestones. She debuted as the leader of Girls’ Generation in 2007 and made her solo debut with the EP “I” in 2015. Over the years, she has released hit songs like “11:11,” “Fine,” “Four Seasons,” “INVU,” and “To. X.” Her latest album before the compilation was her fifth mini-album, “To. X,” released in November 2023.
