Fans of Taeyeon in Japan received disappointing news earlier this month as SM Entertainment officially announced the cancellation of her upcoming “The TENSE in Japan” concerts in Tokyo. The announcement was made two days before the scheduled concerts, which made fans furious.

The shows, scheduled for April 19-20 at Ariake Arena, were ultimately called off after the agency exhausted all options for finding a suitable replacement venue.

On Tuesday (April 29), SM Entertainment released an official statement announcing the official cancellation.

Dear fans,

This is SM Entertainment.

We would like to provide an important update for those who purchased tickets to the Tokyo performances of (TAEYEON CONCERT – The TENSE in JAPAN), originally scheduled for April 19-20.

Following the initial notice regarding the cancellation, we thoroughly explored various alternatives, including the possibility of rescheduling.

Despite our efforts, due to challenges in securing a venue capable of accommodating the appropriate audience size while upholding the quality standards of the performance, we regret to inform you that the Tokyo concerts have been officially canceled.

We sincerely apologize for the disappointment this may cause to the fans who have been patiently waiting, and we ask for your kind understanding regarding the time taken to arrive at this final decision, as we diligently considered all possible options.

All purchased tickets will be fully refunded.

Please check your My Page or email from the original point of purchase by April 30 (Wednesday) for confirmation.

We remain deeply grateful for your continued support.

Thank you.

Taeyeon’s Tokyo concert was canceled due to equipment delays. On April 17, SM Entertainment explained that the equipment needed for the Asia tour has not yet arrived in Japan, making it impossible to prepare for the concert. Despite exploring all options, the agency decided it could not hold the concert without the necessary equipment.

SM Entertainment, April 29, 2025

The Girls’ Generation’s member personally addressed the concert cancellation on Bubble, fan messaging app. She expressed frustration, saying,

When I heard the news that the Japan concert was canceled, I was worried about S♡NE and felt really down. I don’t know what to say or how to express myself… This whole situation is just so frustrating. I’m sorry to S♡NE who were looking forward to it. All the effort and anticipation that went into creating this concert, and it’s just gone in an instant. It feels like it’s been stolen away, and I’m left with this empty, hollow feeling. I don’t even know how to put into words how I’m feeling right now.

Meanwhile, Taeyeon began her sixth concert tour “The TENSE” in March and held concerts in Seoul, Taipei, Manila, Jakarta, and Macau. She will perform next in Singapore (May 3-4), Bangkok (May 31-June 1), and Hong Kong (June 7).
