Netflix has released photos from the first script reading of its upcoming Korean original series, The Dealer. The series, produced by Hwang Dong Hyuk of Squid Game fame, has officially begun production. It is the next project of the acclaimed director after Squid Game concluded its run last year.

The Dealer brings together a top-tier cast including Jung So Min, Ryoo Seung Bum, Lee Soo Hyuk, and Ryu Kyung Soo.

The series is a high-stakes casino crime drama that follows a dealer whose life is turned upside down after being swindled out of her newlywed home.

Jung So Min stars as Jeong Geonhwa, a talented casino dealer whose wedding plans collapse after losing her savings. To reclaim her money and her future, she is forced back into the dangerous world of illegal gambling. In doing so, she awakens a long-suppressed supernatural ability that gives her an unnatural advantage at the tables.

Jung So Min has previously starred in Alchemy of Souls, Because This Is My First Life, and Love Next Door. Her most recent project was the 2025 romance drama Would You Marry Me? with Choi Woo Shik.

Ryoo Seung Bum plays Hwang Chisu, a financially desperate gambler who becomes entangled in Geonhwa’s plans. He is known for acclaimed roles in Crying Fist, The Unjust, The Berlin File, and the Disney+ drama Moving.

Lee Soo Hyuk portrays Jo Jun, a cool-headed and formidable casino player. He is recognized for his  Queen Woo, S Line, and The Player 2: Master of Swindlers.

Ryu Kyung Soo plays Choi Wooseung, Geonhwa’s fiancé, who is both gentle and a determined detective. His past notable roles include Hellbound, Six Flying Dragons, and the film Money. His most recent work being the Netflix series The Bequeathed and Our Unwritten Seoul.

The series is produced by Hwang Dong Hyuk, the creator of Squid Game, so fans can expect another nail-biting thriller. Director Choi Young Hwan, known for his work as a cinematographer on films like The Thieves and Veteran, makes his series directorial debut.

The screenplay is written by Ohnooy and Lee Tae Young, and the series is produced by Firstman Studio, the company behind Squid Game.

Filming for The Dealer is scheduled to run from late 2025 through May 2026, and the series will consist of 11 episodes, each approximately 45 minutes long.
